Momentary
Balance
1. Downtown Seattle
A blonde child with parents
on the 19th floor
stared into drizzle,
jumbo jets, taxis,
pedestrians dashing
into boutiques
under neon tubes
blinking HOTEL.
The next question, naturally:
when do we eat?
2. Southern Indiana
When cornfields were lean
you sat, pondering the Perfect One
whose hands present knowledge
whose eyes are great flowers.
When he fed the hungry
with wisdom, you prayed for rain.
Folks said a stoney lonesome
is an awful thing.
Like mules, staring in their
circle, crushing sorghum.
